Frequently Asked Questions
What is that chalk like substance on my house?
It’s called oxidation… Pretty prominent here in the Lowcountry on vinyl and painted surfaces… The primary cause is exposure to sunlight… This is why the chalk is always most prominent on the sunny sides of your home.
Ultra violet light breaks down the binders in the paint and vinyl and releases the pigments.
The term “breakdown” is literal… It’s a breakdown or separation of the pigment from the product, either paint or vinyl.
Unfortunately, when we wash, some of the chalk can run off the home… Often leaving the home streaky. When we detect oxidation we try to wash as evenly as possible to prevent the chalk from coming off unevenly….
The solution: Repaint with a better quality latex paint!
How often should I have my home washed?
Most of our clients clean once or twice a year. We will send you a reminder when it’s time to clean!
Are your chemicals environmentally safe?
Yes, we use a common household bleach to kill the mildew and an emulsifying agent to loosen the dirt and grime.
Will this process kill my foliage?
No, but certain flowers and plants could shed petals or leaves as their natural defense mechanism. They will grow back in time.
Do I need to be home when you clean?
Not necessarily, most of our clients are not home when we clean. But remember to close all doors and windows before leaving and unlock screen porch door as well.
Do I need to move things?
Yes, especially from your porch areas. Potted plants, couch cushions, personal items, etc. Anything that could get chemical or water damaged. And, of course, please move cars into garage or away from home on cleaning day.
